2025-10-23

According to data from Swiss analysis firm Pexapark, 19 power purchase agreements (PPAs) totaling 630MW were signed in Europe in September. However, PPA prices declined month-over-month in most major markets, with the largest drop in Poland.

A recent report from Swiss renewable energy analysis firm Pexapark shows that 17 PPAs totaling 630MW were publicly announced in Europe in September. Italy and Spain were the most active markets, accounting for 200MW and 132MW, respectively.

The largest PPA in September was signed by Mercedes-Benz, which signed a 140MW, 25-year on-site PPA for an onshore wind project being developed at the Papenburg test site in Germany.

Compared to August, the market showed some improvement in September. A previous report from Pexapark showed that nine PPAs totaling 450MW were signed in August. However, compared to the 23 agreements signed in September 2024, totaling 1.03 GW, the market slowed significantly during the same period this year.

Pexapark's latest analysis indicates that by the end of September, the average price of tracked PPAs was €47.80/MWh (approximately $55.53/MWh), a 2% decrease from the previous month.

PPA prices in the Netherlands, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Portugal, and Spain all declined in September. Poland saw the largest drop, at 17.9%. Pexapark says this reflects more conservative expectations among market participants regarding the returns from solar energy capture.

The average PPA price in the UK remained unchanged in September, while the Nordic market was the only region to see a 1% increase.

PV Magazine previously reported that the number of solar PPA contracts signed in Germany fell 87% year-on-year.
